Where’s the Wow! in digital publishing?
If you’ve tried other e-books you were probably left wondering, “Where’s the Wow?” Seriously, haven’t you ever wondered why anyone would give up paper books to switch to digital books that a) cost almost as much as paper books, b) are less convenient than paper books, and c) don’t offer significant advantages over paper books?
But digital books don’t have to be stale imitations of paper books. They can be much more if they utilize the power of today’s computers and the Internet. Successful e-book technology requires thinking outside the box, or outside the covers, if you will. It’s not enough to create digital copies of the paper books, we need to think ahead to the book of the future. We need to think about the features that we really want, the features that are possible, the features that will turn digital books from a “So what?” to a “I gotta have that!”
Imagine a book where photos come to life as videos. When “reading” such a book, you won’t just read about a famous speech—you’ll listen to those speeches for yourself. When reading a book about space flight, you won’t just read about men walking on the moon—you’ll watch them bounce around like dust bunnies. But photos that come to life as videos are just the beginning.
